12 Best Paint Colors for Design and Staging – Why use neutrals? In this sort and sweet video, I share 12 of my most used neutrals that provide the perfect backdrop for any design style. I chat a bit about selecting the right color and then give you my top picks.

I want to share the 12 best paint colors for staging, selling, and decorating. They also happen to be designer favorites. There are many options for paint color to create that perfect neutral backdrop for staging perfection or years of decorating bliss.

I have a plethora of professional tips, tricks, and advice on the topic of choosing colors for painting perfection…..but I will hold these in check for later posts.

This post is simply to offer a few suggested alternatives to the depressing grays and jaundice beiges that seem to flood many homes today. This is due mainly to the fact that the paint colors are chosen with the wrong undertones.

The first rule for success is to always lean neutral. This means staying away from too cool or too warm of undertones. Avoid colors that have just a “hint” or “touch” or “smidge” too much blue, green, yellow, pink, or purple. Also, keep the saturation just below midtown and lighter. PAINT

Why?

NOT RECOMMENDED. The yellow and brown color choices are too personalized, design limiting, and they clash with the other finishes in the space.

Because to work well for the masses the undertone needs to be neutral. Although a gray that has a dash of blue, green, yellow, or purple may be beautiful, on its own, it may clash with wood and stone finishes.

For example, a beige with warm yellow undertones will call out the yellows in granite with can make a kitchen or bath look dated or dingy. Use a neutral paint color and it will call out the darker taupes and browns.

The more color undertones found in the greige, beige, gray, and white selected, the more likely the colors will not appeal to some buyers. Also, these undertones can clash or limit your decorating options as time passes.

NOT RECOMMENDED. The crayon effect is too personalized, design limiting, and is a more likely clash with the other finishes within the space. there are competing paint colors, and competing wood species and tones.

Homes that have what is referred to as the crayon effect may be gorgeous in the context of the current owners decorating style. While it may whisper beautiful to the potential buyers, if it is not their personal design preference, it screams “You will have to repaint the entire house!”

There is a lot of professional knowledge that goes into selecting paint colors for a given space. The designer must take into account existing design features, the number of windows and how large they are, the direction the room faces, and even what is reflecting back into the space from the exterior.

It is much more simple for a homeowner to stay with paint colors that, are tried and true, and work well in most spaces.

The neutral walls in these last two kitchens work well with existing finishes. They keep the spaces bright and spacious looking while adding just the right amount of perfect color.
