DESIGN CONCEPT

This nursery design is for a sweet boy, a bundle of joy.

The design theme is fishing. Not the rustic and smelly kind of fishing but the cute anthropomorphic frog fishing theme. Plenty of soft comforts and activities to keep him dreaming and  happily occupied.

Starting with the background the walls are pained in Spatial White and a large Minnow wall mural has been installed on the non-fenestrated wall. The wall mural  are size customizable so contact me or leave a comment below for further details, if you are interested.

THE BED

The bed is the key pice to any nursery. The be chosen for this nursery is the Hudson 3 in 1 Convertible Crib. It converts from a crib to a toddler bed and then to daybed as your child grows. this one is white but it is available in other colors.

The bedding for the crib are soft bamboo sheets. The bumper set is white with gray stripes to keep it neutral so it will compliment the sheet colors. there are decorative pillows in blue and mustard for snuggle time and to work with the color scheme.

The dresser is a clean line piece that can serve its function as the child grows. It will look as appropriate in a teenagers room as it does in this nursery.

The changing table was chosen for its simple lines. it can function as a toy shelf once he no longer wears diapers.

The fish lamp brings in a touch of natural wood. reminiscent of logs or sticks you might find near a pond.

The curry pouf is great for resting mamas feet while rocking Jr. and a perfect place for him to perch and play a game when he is older.

This upholstered rocking chair offers great benefits over the traditional rockers and glider chairs. It has an upholstered seat, back, and arms for comfort and it will offer much needed support while rocking little Jr. to sleep. It takes up less space that the rocker gliders. Its gray color offers some  forgiveness of little sure to happen stain mishaps. This rocker is also in a style that it can remain in the nursery as Jr. grows or be repurposed in another room without looking out of place.

ORDER

CONCLUSION

Different approaches can be taken when creating a nursery. The approach I use is to create a space that is design appropriate for the age of a child but that can transition as the child grows up. A timeless or more appropriately an ageless nursery transitions from infant to a toddler with minimal changes.

It can be popular to create a super primary and colorful nursery because we are told bright or high contrast colors are easier for babies to see.

While I understand the theory behind this belief, I do not adhere nor recommend it to my  clients.

A nursery should be designed as a calming space for baby to rest and take naps. It needs to be a peaceful space to relax and learn to self-sooth.  When it comes to visual stimulation with bright colors, keep those to the books, rattles, soft toys, etc. – things that can be brought out when it’s play time and put out of sight when it time to sleep.

If you are planning multiple children and the space will be a dedicated nursery, design it to be versatile for both girls and boys.

A great place to start is a neutral background. Use multipurpose pieces that are good quality.

The furnishing for these two boards are listed above. I chose sources that had very reasonable price ranges and either low or free delivery. Be sure to check them out if you see any that you like.

I hope I have given you some ideas to get you creative nursery design started.

The elements and furnishing that I have curated will work in many individual spaces, depending on how you decide to execute them.

Of course, as I create any design board, I have a clear design vision in mind. If you are interested in a custom design board for your space, and local or virtual design services, schedule your complimentary discovery call for more information.
