2021 Pantone Color Choices
WHAT ARE PANTONE COLOR PICKS THIS YEAR
If gray and yellow make your design heart skip a beat then this is your year.
What are 2021 Pantone color choices of the year are PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating
2021 Pantone colors are a juxtaposition of dark verse bright, dull versus vibrant, muted versus saturated… maybe even boring versus exciting.
Pantone Color Choice Comparison
Only one other year, in the past two decades, has Pantone chosen two colors for their annual color of the year choice. In 2016 Pantone selected PANTONE 15-3919 Serenity & PANTONE 13-1520 Rose Quartz. This combination reminded me so much of the 80’s Mauve and Dusty Blue…only brighter.
In both cases, 2016 & 2021, either color alone would be underwhelming and uninspiring. Therefore, I feel, pairing the dual colors was combined in order that the one makes the other palatable or Palette-able (pun intended.)
Juxtaposition of Color
Don’t get me wrong, I am not hating on PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. Pantone’s Illuminating is a vibrant and exhilarating color and Ultimate Gray is grounding and strong. This year’s duo will be stunning if balanced well with other colors, forms, materials, and rich textures.
Pantone Color Choice Application
This year’s color choices are not limited in application to anyone’s certain design style as they can be used in spaces from the comfiest of Country to the most ultra-modern. How aesthetically these two colors will play together depends entirely on how well they are combined.
Implementation of this year’s Pantone color choices can be very simple or complex, so integrate what is right for you. If you just want to dip a toe into this year’s color picks try adding them in art or accessories before committing to something more permanent.
It has been said by Pantone that this year’s color choices are a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.
I will heartedly agree with this statement. Apply proper restraint and there is almost no design limit to the creative results you can achieve with Illuminating and Ultimate Gray.
