BOY'S ROOM NURSERY DESIGN
BOYS ROOM - INFANT TO TODDLER TRANSITIONS
DESIGN CONCEPT
FREE INSPIRATION DESIGN BOARD IT’S A BOY…ROOM
This nursery design is for a sweet boy, a bundle of joy.
The design theme is fishing. Not the rustic and smelly kind of fishing but the cute anthropomorphic frog fishing theme. Plenty of soft comforts and activities to keep him dreaming and happily occupied.
Starting with the background the walls are pained in Spatial White and a large Minnow wall mural has been installed on the non-fenestrated wall. The wall mural are size customizable so contact me or leave a comment below for further details, if you are interested.
THE BED
The perfect bed is the key piece to any nursery. We chose, for this nursery, the Hudson 3 in 1 Convertible Crib. It converts from a crib to a toddler bed and then to a daybed as your child grows. This one is white but it is available in other colors.
The bedding for the crib is soft bamboo sheets. The bumper set is white with gray stripes to keep it neutral so it will complement the sheet colors. There are decorative pillows in blue and mustard for snuggle time and to work with the color scheme.
OTHER FURNISHINGS
To soften the windows they are flanked by gray linen curtains. For full light control, it is suggested to install light-blocking cellular shades.
This dresser has clean lines that can serve its function as the child grows. It will look as appropriate in a teenager’s room as it does in this nursery.
Our changing table was chosen for its simple lines. it can function as a toy shelf once he no longer wears diapers.
This fish lamp brings in a touch of natural wood. reminiscent of logs or sticks you might find near a pond.
The curry pouf is great for resting mama’s feet while rocking Jr. and a perfect place for him to perch and play a game when he is older.
This upholstered rocking chair offers great benefits over traditional rockers and glider chairs. It has an upholstered seat, back, and arms for comfort, and it will offer much-needed support while rocking little Jr. to sleep. The rocker will take up less space than the rocker gliders. Its gray color offers some forgiveness of little sure-to happens stain mishaps. This rocker is also in a style that it can remain in the nursery as Jr. grows or be repurposed in another room without looking out of place.
THE FUN PRACTICAL STUFF
Every nursery needs some practical furnishings and Jr. grows, but they can be fun as well.
The ABC rug is perfect for babies tummy time or for a toddlers story or play time. The modern rocking horse is fun to ride and offer a toddler much needed exercise. The stripe tent can offer a special place to cozy in while playing games, looking at books, or daydreaming – all essential for the creative growth.
The Half Moon table and Double O chair are the perfect height for the little one to draw, play games, or practice coloring.
The curry hangers with the cute little ears may help him want to learn to hang up his clothes.
ALL FUN AND GAMES
It’s all fun and games ’till somebody learns something.
Toys and games are a great way for a child to learn and play. To avoid the masses of plastic disposable toys here are a few quality suggestions.
Cubebot is a wooden toy robot. It is made from wood and elastic. It can be positioned to hold dozens of poses. Coolest of all, when it’s time to rest, Cubebot folds back into a perfect cube.
The Wooden Puzzle Box is 100% Wood, Natural & Painted. It is a fun way to learn and work on motor skills.
Fish Swim is a colorful board book that will hold up to reading over and over and over and….

CONCLUSION
Different approaches can be taken when creating a nursery. The approach I use is to create a space that is design appropriate for the age of a child but that can transition as the child grows up. A timeless or more appropriately an ageless nursery transitions from infant to a toddler with minimal changes.
It can be popular to create a super primary and colorful nursery because we are told bright or high contrast colors are easier for babies to see.
While I understand the theory behind this belief, I do not adhere nor recommend it to my clients.
A nursery should be designed as a calming space for baby to rest and take naps. It needs to be a peaceful space to relax and learn to self-sooth. When it comes to visual stimulation with bright colors, keep those to the books, rattles, soft toys, etc. – things that can be brought out when it’s play time and put out of sight when it time to sleep.
If you are planning multiple children and the space will be a dedicated nursery, design it to be versatile for both girls and boys.
A great place to start is a neutral background. Use multipurpose pieces that are good quality.
