GIRL'S ROOM - INFANT TO TODDLER TRANSITIONS
DESIGN CONCEPT
This free design inspiration board is for a nursery design for a sweet girl, a bundle of joy.
The design theme is woodlands. Not the roughing it kind of woods but the cute anthropomorphic mice and other adorable animals kind of woodlands. Plenty of soft comforts and activities to keep her dreaming and happily occupied.
Starting with the background the walls are painted in Spatial White and framed Beatrix Potter wall murals have been installed on the unfenestrated walls. The wall murals are size customizable so contact me or leave a comment below for further details, if you are interested.
THE BED
The bed is the heart of a nursery or child’s room. This Cool modern design Convertible Crib boasts strong frame lines and a two-tone color scheme. It has three-position adjustable mattress support base and quick transition. It can change from a crib, into a toddler bed, and also into a daybed. A great way to save costs since it transitions as she grows and her needs change.
For the crib, a pink and gray woodland theme bed set is a perfect fit. It includes a Crib Comforter, Crib Bumper, Fitted Sheet, Crib Skirt (Dust Ruffle), Diaper Stacker, Toy Bag, Decorative Pillow, and 2 Window Valances.

OTHER FURNISHINGS
To soften the light in the girl’s room Cassidy Chambray Panels were chosen to flank the windows. For full light control, it is suggested to install light-blocking cellular shades.
This dresser has clean lines and can serve its function as she grows older. It will look as appropriate in a teenager’s room as it does in this nursery.
The changing table was chosen for its simple lines. it can function as a toy shelf once she no longer wears diapers.
Lighting brings in a sweet touch of femininity with the floral chandelier and the white bunny carries on the woodland theme.
The coral corduroy pouf is great for resting Mama’s feet while rocking the Princess and a perfect place for her to perch and play a game and toys when she is older.
This upholstered rocking chair offers great benefits over traditional rockers and glider chairs. It has an upholstered seat, back, and arms for comfort, and it will offer much-needed support while rocking little Jr. to sleep. It takes up less space than the rocker gliders. Its soft color keeps the space light and bright. This rocker is also in a style that it can remain in the nursery as Jr. grows or be repurposed in another room without looking out of place.
FUN PRACTICAL STUFF
Every nursery needs some practical furnishings and the little Princess grows, but they can be fun as well.
This Vintage Rose ABC rug is perfect for a baby’s tummy time or for a toddler’s story or playtime. The modern rocking horse is fun to ride and offers a toddler much-needed exercise.
The pink Half Moon table and Double O chair are the perfect height for the little one to draw, play games, practice coloring. or hold royal tea parties.
Soft blue hangers and the rabbit mini hooks, with the cute little ears, may help her want to learn to hang up her clothes. The Fawn Song box is a place for a sweet melody and little treasures.
FUN AND GAMES
It’s all fun and games ’till somebody learns something.
Toys and games are a great way for a child to learn and play. They are also used as accessories in the room. To avoid the masses of plastic disposable toys here are a few quality suggestions.
The Abacus Rainbow can help with motor skills and learning to count. In a pinch, it can be an archway for her little dolls to walk under.
Wooden Family Box is 100% Beech, Natural, and painted. It is a fun way to learn and work on motor skills.

COLOR SCHEME
The soft color scheme for this girl’s nursery or child’s room is colorful but serine. Spatial White is the wall color and all the other colors represent the colors found in the furnishings.
Colors include Spatial White, Nuthatch, Sleepy Hollow, Picnic, and Gracious Rose.
CONCLUSION
Different approaches can be taken when creating a nursery. The approach I use is to create a space that is designed appropriately for the age of a child but that can transition as the child grows up. A timeless or more appropriately an ageless nursery transitions from infant to a toddler with minimal changes.
It can be popular to create a super primary and colorful nursery because we are told bright or high contrast colors are easier for babies to see.
While I understand the theory behind this belief, I do not adhere to nor recommend it to my clients.
A nursery should be designed as a calming space for the baby to rest and take naps. It needs to be a peaceful space to relax and learn to self-soothe. When it comes to visual stimulation with bright colors, keep those to the books, rattles, soft toys, etc. – things that can be brought out when it’s playtime and put out of sight when it’s time to sleep.
If you are planning multiple children and the space will be a dedicated nursery, design it to be versatile for both girls and boys.
A great place to start is a neutral background. Use multipurpose pieces that are of good quality.
