THE EASIEST WAY TO PICK COLORS FOR YOUR HOME
Do you struggle to pick colors for your home? How do you create the perfect color palette? In this video, I share one of my practical ways to create the perfect color palette for your interior design project. I will share the simple steps that you must take to create the perfect color scheme for your space.
I offer you helpful suggestions for creating your Interior Design Color Scheme with the best results. Color doesn’t have to be complicated. Follow my simple and practice method and achieve professional interior design results.
TIPS ON HOW TO CREATE A COLOR SCHEME THAT TELLS YOUR STORY
Create a color scheme that tells a story for your design. It is much easier when focusing in on an inspiration piece as a starting point. The inspiration piece you choose may or may not actually end up in your final design, sometimes it simply acts as a gauge or reminder of the feel or looks you are aiming for as an end result.
To hone in on your design possibilities make a list of words based on the inspiration piece you have chosen and have grounded in the senses. What look, feel, sound, taste, or smell does it evoke.
In one of the photos above the inspiration, the piece was the painting of a woman. It evokes a sensual, sophisticated, classic, rich, Art Deco, Art Nouveau vibe. The color scheme is aubergine, antique gold, cream, and silver. There are other colors present but they are filler not focal.
WHAT COUNTS AS COLOR
Color includes everything and color can be neutral. In this space, there are light, mid, and dark tones of wood; white, off-white, and pale stone; black, silver, and clear; and pops of primary colors. It is important to distribute the colors throughout the space to create balance and harmony.
The inspiration for a space design can be based on a collection. In the photo above there is a collection of Mid Century glass bottles. This collection evokes images of Mid Century Modern Design and could lend itself to fun and funky or a restrained palette induced with pops of color.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The key to successfully creating a Color Story is planning. Choose an inspiration piece, make a word list based on the senses, assign the colors to specific areas of the space, and remain firmly flexible with the plan.
Firmly flexible is being firmly committed to the decisions that you made so that you do not lose sight of the plan. However; flexible enough not to let obstacles stop you and to keep the finished design from looking too rigid and calculated.
