3 REASONS INTERIOR DESIGN SHOULD BE IMPORTANT TO YOU
Interior Design Is A Necessity
Interior Design was once considered a pompous display of self-indulgence. Now, after decades of extensive research and case studies, it has been discovered that this is not true. Interior design principles can create highly functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces that enhance life and facilitate the health, safety, and welfare of occupants.
YOU ARE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE – 3 REASONS INTERIOR DESIGN SHOULD MATTER TO YOU – IF YOU DON’T KNOW THIS !
Why is Interior design important?
Interior Design is a strategic process that results in highly functional and aesthetic solutions specific to the perimeters of each space and the needs of its occupants. In this video, I share WHY Interior Design is Important and what you need to know to design your space. What is Interior Design?
Interior Design Is Important
While many describe Interior Design as specifying furnishings, picking colors, and buying pretty things in reality that is a very small part of the process after the real work has been done. Interior Design is about collecting vital data on the client’s vision of what they want, need, and preferences and then creating the perfect design to meet their criteria as much as possible…
BUT IT IS SO MUCH MORE.
Whether you choose to work with a designer and just learn a little more about the process, OR you choose to become your own designer and learn what you need to plan for and be aware of as you create your design for the life you want to experience.
Interior Design is a strategic process that results in highly functional and aesthetic solutions specific to the perimeters of each space and the needs of its occupants.
The design choices we make can impact functionality, mood, health-both mental & physical, aesthetics, value,…. the list goes on.
Why Is Interior Design Important ?
Why is Interior design important?
Is it the space-plan?
Is it the budget?
Is it the color scheme?
Is it the design style?
Some of the key reasons may not be what you think.
Reason 1: FUNCTION
Interior design uses design principles that ensure when applied properly, that the space we occupy will function optimally. When a space is not functioning correctly it can cause health and safety issues as well as increased occupant frustration and dissatisfaction.
Specify the proper scale of furnishings to create a design that flows, eliminates congested areas, and avoids wasted space. Such as selecting the perfect size sofa, tables, etc for the great room so that everyone has a seat, can see what they are doing, and move about the space without frustration or harm.
Specify the correct kitchen or bath layout so that it offers optimal function and safety, convenience, and aesthetic payoff. Such as specifying a minimum of 36” wide and 24” deep next to the sink for a primary prep-work area, 15” W landing on the handle side of the refrigerator, or 12” landing on one side and 15” landing on another side of the cooktop.
Specify the appropriate space plan, layout, and zones to optimize the function and enjoyment of the occupants. Such as kitchen zones for cooking, cleanup, and storage. Create multipurpose spaces such as dining room office, or guest bedroom sewing/craft room. It is about maximizing the usability of a space to better serve the occupants.
Reason 2: Safety
Interior design follows a set of local or state safety codes to ensure, when applied correctly, the safety and well-being of occupants.
Specifying the use of proper materials in a design setting. Such as fire resistant or retardant materials in an area exposed to hazards of heat and fire.
Specifying the protective measures to ensure user safety. Such as railing height with correct spindle spacings for the custom staircase.
Or Kindly and sympathetically
Specifying and explaining why it is against code and is unsafe to install Commercial appliances in your kitchen or that lovely crystal chandelier – YOU LOVE SO VERY MUCH – over the Jacuzzi tub.
Reason 3: Health
In interior design, the use of design principles, following required codes, and addressing occupant needs and requirements ensure, when followed correctly, that the space will support occupant’s health needs, concerns, and or other issues wherever possible.
Specifying the systems and components that create and support safe and healthy use. Such as choosing the correct range hood size with the recommended CFM or proper light fixtures in a space.
Specifying the proper furnishings and materials to create the desired design aesthetic while being durable, safe, and supporting occupant needs. Such as choosing a canvas, twill, or chenille upholstery for the family of 6 sofa instead of other more delicate fabrics for a cleaner more durable wear.
Specifying the proper colors and patterns for a space to correct deficiencies or support occupant needs. Such as selecting a lighter color for rooms with north-facing windows or cooler shades for south/east/west-facing spaces.
East/West-facing windows tend to be the brightest in the morning/evening, respectively, and the light will be more of a warm golden tone. South-facing windows get a lot of direct sunlight and tend to be the brightest during the day.
